Art After Art After Art

By now the tale of Shepard Fairey and The Associated Press photo that he appropriated for his famous/infamous “HOPE” painting of Obama is well-known. Just as the last embers of the debate seem to be burning out, artist Gordon Cheung reignites them with “HOPE (Red/Blue).” As the positive and negative images suggest, Cheung has turned Fairey’s work inside out. Fairey’s (Mannie Garcia’s? The AP’s?) image is superimposed over stock listings and printed on sailcloth. His indication that our hopes are just blowing in the wind? And who sues Cheung now?

» Engadget Redesign on its Way!

I never found the content on Gizmodo to be overwhelmingly better than what is on Engadget. For me its all about the design. Gizmodo, is currently heads and toes above Engadget in the looks department. But it looks like that is about to change with their new art-directed styling.

This N.A.S.A. produced collabo between Kool Keith and Tom Waits draws obvious comparison to the Gorillaz. Bring together legends in their respective musical worlds, add incredibly poignant art to the music video, and wham! Perfection.

I always liked Kool Keith better when he is paired up with others. In one way it tones down his spacey demeanor and in another way it raises it by adding contrast.

» Sesame Street!?!?!!

This clip just validated my youth. If Sesame Street was always this profoundly good at “infotainment”, and of course I remember it that way, then all those hours I wasted weren’t a waste.
